Tekoa, Inc. is a residential treatment facility for adolescents in the New River Valley of Virginia. It was founded in 1994 to provide treatment and special education for children experiencing difficulties at home, in school or in the community. Tekoa is licensed by both the Virginia Department of Social Services and the Department of Education.
Our treatment programs combine individual, group, and family counseling to identify issues and develop interventions that promote improved individual functioning and possible family reunification. We utilize substance abuse counseling, sexual offender assessment and treatment, a psycho-social milieu, therapeutic horseback riding and adventure-based recreation to promote the physical, emotional, psychological, and social growth of each resident.
All of our programs endeavor to promote a sense of stewardship for relationships, community and the environment. We emphasize participation in service learning programs as a means of promoting citizenship, self and other awareness, and career exploration. Learning from experience and assuming responsibility for one's life are foundational to success at Tekoa.
The ultimate goal of treatment is to promote the ability of each child and family to live more peacefully and successfully. Tekoa utilizes experiential therapies to address the chronic trauma issues that prevent the individual from living safely and effectively in the community. Our efforts to improve the lives and futures of at-risk youth lead to stronger, healthier, more sustainable communities.
