TEKOA FEMALE TRANSITIONS PROGRAM
Tekoa Transitions is a less restrictive group home setting for adolescent females who have successfully completed a residential program or are just entering care and need a less intensive level of treatment. Tekoa Transitions prepares older teens for independent living or to return home. Tekoa Transitions helps its residents reintegrate back into the community by helping them acquire jobs in the community, have free time in the community and attend public high school or community college.

Information:
Tekoa Transitions is a small program serving up to six female residents between the ages of 14 years and 17 years. Residents in admission prior to their eighteenth birthday may remain in care at Tekoa Transitions beyond their 18th birthday provided that they continue to address individual treatment goals.
Tekoa Transitions is located in downtown Christiansburg Virginia and is within twenty minutes of both Radford University and Virginia Tech State University. The facility is centrally located and close to local businesses and a shopping mall. New River Community College’s main campus is twenty minutes away and has a convenient satellite site located one block from the Transitions program. Roanoke Virginia is approximately forty minutes away and offers a bus station, airport and civic center for cultural and sporting events.
The facility is set up to reflect a home environment. There are three bedrooms and residents share a room with a peer. There are two study lounges set up with computers and residents have access to the internet. There is a family room with a television.
Services Offered:
Tekoa Transitions offers individual and group therapy to all residents. Therapy is provided by a licensed professional counselor. Residents whose families are involved are also provided with family therapy. Case management services are provided as well to all residents. Residents are provided with independent living skills training and Youth Counselor’s work individually with residents to address their specific treatment needs and living skills.
Tekoa also has an Equine Program and all residents are provided an opportunity to participate in Tekoa’s Equine Assisted Mental Health Program. All resident also get to participate in service learning activities to help develop their sense of community and boost their self-esteem
Population Served:
Tekoa Transitions is a small program serving up to six female residents between the ages of 14 years and 17 years. Possible reasons for placement at Tekoa Transitions include neglect, abuse, truancy, depression, oppositional defiance, self-harm, sexual abuse, runaway, family difficulties, pregnancy, sexual promiscuity, substance abuse or juvenile delinquency.
